Director of Commercial Litigation Strategy

Patrick Dempsey leads Certum’s commercial litigation strategy and brings deep experience from across the legal finance and litigation sectors. He previously served as Director at Burford Capital, where he originated and structured litigation finance solutions for law firms and corporations, and as Chief Investment Officer of Therium Capital Management U.S., overseeing single-case and portfolio funding strategies.


A former litigator and trial lawyer at Proskauer and Hogan Lovells-where he was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star-Patrick has tried cases and arbitrations across a wide range of industries. He’s been recognized as a Global Leader in Litigation Finance by Lawdragon, named to Who’s Who Legal Thought Leaders in third-party funding, and honored by Leaders League for his individual expertise.


Patrick earned his J.D. from Tulane Law School, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, where he was Managing Editor of the Tulane Law Review and externed for Judge Sarah S. Vance of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He holds a B.S. from the University of New Orleans.
