Joel Fineberg is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Certum Group, where he is responsible for shaping and executing the company’s corporate strategy and driving innovation across all of Certum’s offerings in litigation finance, litigation insurance, and legal consulting. A pioneer at the intersection of law and financial risk management, Joel has spent more than 35 years developing creative solutions that help companies and their counsel navigate complex litigation with greater certainty, efficiency, and control.

Joel is the creator of Class Action Settlement Insurance (CASI), the industry’s first and only post-lawsuit settlement insurance product, designed to transfer known settlement liabilities. CASI has redefined how companies, insurers, and defense counsel approach class action settlement risk, reflecting Joel’s ability to anticipate market needs and deliver tools that transform litigation risk into manageable business outcomes.

Before founding Certum Group, Joel led a national class action practice and went on to establish Certum Group, where he helped corporations facing bet-the-company litigation design settlements and risk-transfer solutions tailored to their financial and strategic goals. His experience as both a litigator and innovator enable him to bridge the gap between legal strategy and financial risk, positioning Certum Group as a leader in this rapidly evolving industry.

Earlier in his career, Joel served as a Briefing Attorney for the Texas Supreme Court. He earned his B.A. from Emory University and his J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law. His professional achievements have been recognized repeatedly, including being named one of Dallas Magazine’s Best Lawyers Under 40 and honored as a Texas Super Lawyer every year from 2003 through 2015.

Today, Joel continues to set the vision for Certum Group, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of innovation in litigation risk transfer while helping clients and investors achieve clarity and confidence in the most complex legal disputes.
